About Mia (draft)
Mia Theodoratus is a harpist and composer in New York. She plays pedal, Celtic and electric harp, and historical instruments: the Regency single-action harp, the dital harp and the ancient Greek lyre.
She studied harp at the University of Texas at Austin (BFA) and harp and world music at CalArts (MFA). In New York she took up the electric harp and played clubs such as CBGB, Coney Island High, Jackie 60 and the Cooler. She has improvised with Roscoe Mitchell, Charlie Haden, Daniel Carter and Baikida Carroll, and worked with Antony and the Johnsons, Leona Naess, Ann Magnuson, Brandee Younger, Ray Chew and Avery Brooks.
She has performed at the Whitney Biennial, Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Life Ball in Vienna and in a production of Oedipus in Athens. In March 2012 the Speaker of the House invited her to play for President Obama and the Irish Prime Minister. She has composed music for HBO’s Flight of the Conchords and AMC’s Rubicon.
Her recent work looks to earlier music: performances of Sappho’s poetry on lyre, and Harp from the Age of Enlightenment, a salon program for Regency instruments. Her latest recordings are In a Basement in Brooklyn (2024), improvisations with Masami Tomihisa and Lary 7, and Songs from Sappho (2025).
She teaches harp at Sarah Lawrence College and the Irish Arts Center, is president of the Metro Harp Chapter of the American Harp Society, and founded the NYC Harp Orchestra.

Lessons
Mia Theodoratus teaches harp at Sarah Lawrence College and the Irish Arts Center, and takes private students in pedal harp, Celtic harp, electric harp and improvisation. She trained at the University of Texas at Austin and CalArts, and is president of the Metro Harp Chapter of the American Harp Society.
Weddings
Mia Theodoratus has played weddings in New York City and the tri-state area for 25 years: ceremonies, cocktail hours and rehearsal dinners. Pedal harp suits the ceremony, Celtic harp a more traditional program, and electric harp a rock song for the first dance. She plans the music with each couple and will learn a song you choose.
